Legislation for the Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday was signed in 1983 and the holiday was designated as a national day of service in 1994. As we take the day to remember and honor the leadership, struggle and creativity of one of our leaders of the Civil Rights Movement, I've curated some links that made me proud, reflective and emotional:

  1. The cast of Selma, including Oprah Winfery, marches in Selma, Alabama. [emotional]
  2. Check out Google's Selma Doodle for MLK Day. [proud]
  3. MTV is using MLK Day to raise a conversation about race (#thetalk) by showing all programming in black and white. [proud]
  4. Photographs from the The Freedom Journey in 1965. [reflective]
MTV says it's time for us to have #thetalk.
